Bologna, 24 January 2018 – Beautiful and attractive. The Alma Mater continues to top international rankings tables, prevailing both against other universities and as an institution of strategic value for Bologna's growth.
Its latest success is attested by Times Higher Education. In this instance, the list is quite unique: the ten most beautiful universities in Europe. Institutions were assessed based on the cultural, artistic and aesthetic value of their buildings and spaces and the Alma Mater topped the list.
“The University of Bologna – say the authors of the rankings – is one of the most beautiful in Europe and perhaps even in the world”. This is thanks to the exquisite architecture of the institution's many buildings and its museums and green spaces, including its Botanic Garden.
As well as Unibo, the only Italian university in the top 10, the list acknowledges the beauty of other historic European universities: the University of Salamanca, the oldest in Spain, is in second place; the University of Coimbra (Portugal), with its white façades and its baroque architecture, is in third.
This recognition confirms Alma Mater's international value: a university renowned all over the world for the quality of its teaching, research and international lookout as well as for its lively and beautiful spaces, indissolubly linked to the city of Bologna.
The acknowledgement is also confirmed by another recently-published rankings table. According to the latest edition of the Global Talent Competitiveness Index, elaborated by the Swiss group Adecco, Bologna is the first city in Italy for attractiveness of young talents. In fact, Bologna ranked better than Rome, Turin and Milan, and data show that the presence of the University played a determining role.
