The conference aims at identifying important future challenges for universities and their role in society, closely linked to Doctoral studies.

Doctoral studies represent not only the highest level of education provided for by the Italian system but also a very important research training experience, essential for young people who will be committed to strengthen and advance the cultural growth of society. In 2019, the Ceremony anticipates the celebrations for the 20th Anniversary of the Bologna Declaration, which the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna organizes jointly with the Ministry of Education, University and Research - MIUR, under the aegis of 'Observatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum and of the European University Association.

Who can participate

Doctoral candidates who will successfully defend their theses by June 20th, 2019.

Doctoral candidates who successfully defended their theses after June 8th, 2018.

Participation is restricted. Only those who have regularly submitted the online registration will be admitted to the Ceremony.

General information

The Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony will take place on Friday afternoon  June 21st at 5:00 p.m. in the Aula Magna Santa Lucia in Bologna. All Doctors will be invited to join the venue a couple of hours before indicatively, to go through the academic dressing procedures (further details will follow).  Academic dressing will be provided by the University and will be returned at the end of the ceremony. The ceremony will last about two hours. The return of academic dressing at the end of the ceremony usually takes about half an hour.

Photography waiver

On the Ceremony day there will be a photographer of the University.
During the accreditation, you must hand over the photo release form duly filled in and signed (form available in “Attachments” section), together with a copy of an identity document. The delivery of such waiver will allow the University to produce photographic and video material, relevant for institutional communication.

Family and Guests’ Attendance

Due to limited space, we can only guarantee two guests for each participating doctor.
The first guest will be seated in the Aula Magna S. Lucia (access from Via Castiglione 36), while the second guest, if any, will have a place in Aula Absidale (access from via de’ Chiari 25/a), next to the Aula Magna, with audio and visual connection to the Ceremony.
