How to use the library services.

 

Enrolment

To use the library services you must be enrolled.

Who may enrol? University students and persons of age (over 18).
How to enrol: fill in the form that you may get from the lending desk. You will need the following documents:

  • badge (for Bologna University students)
  • valid proof of identity
  • tax code or health card

 

Consultation in the library

On-the-spot consultation of hard-copy and online resources is open to all who wish, except in so far as there may be user-license limitations.

Books with the reference term BIBLIO are on open shelving and readers help themselves. Volumes with any other reference must be requested from the lending desk.

Documents will no longer be distributed as of 15 minutes before closing time.

A selection of Italian and foreign periodicals are available in the reading room.

The reading room has 45 reading places, 16 of them equipped for using portable computers.

There are 4 PC workstations for online bibliographical research and 4 PC workstations for online consultation of publications and using the Internet. To use them one first obtains authentication by one’s university username and password.

Consultation of periodicals

For security reasons the periodicals distribution service keeps to the following timetable: Monday to Friday until 5.45 p.m. To consult periodicals at other times they need to be booked. Booking must be done in person or by e-mail to . E-mail bookings must be sent by 1.30 p.m. on the day before.

Consulting the Tumidei collection

The books are only available for consultation: all reproduction must be arranged through the bibliographical information service.

At the moment the archive material is not available for consultation.

Consulting special research collections (DISMEC)

Volumes referenced as DISMEC may only be consulted by appointment. This may be arranged in person or by sending an e-mail to

 

Borrowing

The user can borrow the majority of the books of the library according to the new rules of the University loan regulation.

For the library users are active the following services through the online catalogue: request, booking, loan renewal.

Not on loan: periodicals, old, rare or precious books, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, glossaries, manuals, specialist collections, music scores, geographical maps, and any other material the library decides not to lend. Items that cannot be borrowed are normally described in the catalogue as “consultation only”.

Distribution of items for consultation or borrowing finishes 15 minutes before closing time.

Self-service borrowing

Students of Bologna University may register the items they borrow by themselves, using their university badge.

Inter-Library Loan

Orders from our own users

Who is entitled to the service? Everyone enrolled at the library.
What may one order? Books not available in Ravenna libraries. Max 5 items at a time.
What to do: orders should be sent by e-mail to
Cost: the service is free of charge for orders from Bologna University libraries. With all other libraries the cost of sending the items will be charged, and the lending library charge may have to be refunded.

Orders from other libraries

Who is entitled to the service? all libraries outside the municipal area that are on the mutual exchange scheme. Orders from private persons are not accepted.
What may they order? max 5 texts for 30 days.
What to do: orders should be sent by e-mail to   or by the ILL-SBN service or via SOL for UBO libraries (Polo UBO); they must contain full bibliographical data of the item (title, author, publisher, year of publication) and the address of the library ordering. Not for inter-library loan: periodicals (use the Document Delivery service), all items for on-the-spot consultation only, multimedia material and exam programme text books).

Cost: the service is free of charge for orders from Bologna University libraries and for libraries on the free mutual exchange scheme, while for other libraries the cost of sending the items will be charged.

If material borrowed is lost, damaged or stolen, the reader must make good the loss with another copy of the same edition, or a different edition provided it is of the same scientific and commercial worth.

Document Delivery

Orders from our own users

Who is entitled to the service? Everyone enrolled at the library.
What may one order? Articles from periodicals or chapters from books not available the Electronic Resources Library of the University of Bologna or in Ravenna libraries. Max 5 items at a time.
What to do: orders should be sent by e-mail to . The NILDE article-ordering service may also be used.
Cost: the service is free of charge, except for refund of expenses when demanded by the lending library.

Orders from other libraries

Who is entitled to the service? all libraries outside the municipal area that are on the mutual exchange scheme. Orders from private persons are not accepted.
What may one order? Articles from periodicals or chapters from books, which will be sent by fax (up to 30 pages), or by post, within the bounds of the photocopying law (Law n. 633 dated 22/4/1941 and changes/supplements thereto). Max 5 articles per time.
What to do: orders should be sent by NILDE or by e-mail to campusravenna.interbibliotecario@unibo.it, or by the ILL-SBN service or via SOL for UBO libraries (Polo UBO).
Cost: the service is free of charge to libraries from the ‘Bologna Polo’ and for those belonging to NILDE. Other libraries may be asked for reimbursement of delivery and/or reproduction expenses.

The librarians will gladly help with bibliographical research, preferably by appointment.

Reproduction, scanning and printing

Users may photocopy and scan material from the library, within the bounds of the authors’ copyright law (Law n. 633 dated 22/4/1941 and changes/supplements thereto).

For this there are 2 multi-function machines for photocopying, self-service printing and scanning. They work by €5 prepaid cards on sale from the automatic vending machine.

Wireless network

The library reading room is covered by the University wireless network.

16 workstations have electric sockets for portable computers.

Lockers

Library users may use one of the 26 lockers each with its own key. Lockers may not be occupied permanently and will be emptied at closing time every day.
