During the oral examination, the applicant’s knowledge of English will be assessed.
The oral examination can be held either in Italian or English, depending on the applicant’s choice.
Scores will be assigned according to the following criteria:
   - knowledge of foreign language: max 1 points
   - aptitude for research: max 49 points

The Admission Board might add other sub-criteria before the assessment process. In this case, a proper announcement will be posted on http://studenti.unibo.it

Applicants obtaining a total score of at least 60/100 are eligible and will be included in the final ranking list.

Learning outcomes
The Ph.D. Program in Mathematics aims at forming researchers able to perform research in total independence in the field of Mathematics, and able to construct and then study models in the several fields of application of Mathematics. Overall, the program aims at training Ph.D. Students to the “scientific method” and gives them the capability of applying it in various contexts, thus making them suitable to assume higher responsibilities in leadership activities.
Activities to be carried out by Doctoral candidates
The fellow will follow
- in the first year courses in their research field
- from the second year they will focus on training through research
- will follow seminars and participate to specialistic conferences
- will perform laboratory activity with mathematical software
- will follow courses to adquire specific skills, as for example ability of using library resources, comunication skills, grant writing skills.
Research training activities compliant with the Doctoral programme's learning outcomes
Activities for carrier development in academic institutions:
- specialistic seminars on the topics of pure and applied mathematics
- participation to national and international conferences and international workshops, giving short comunications.

Activities for carrier development in private sector, industrial or financial:
- secondments in industrial or financial research centres
- participations to talks delivered by industrial managers.
Internationalization features
The phd course is characterized by the following elements:
- It will be complemented by a Marie Curie ITN mobility project with 9 partners from different European countries. This will favour the mobility of all students and the presence of many foreners professor, who will give corses and seminars.
- This year half of the grants are reserved for foreneirs students
- The preliminary colloquium have to be afforded in english
- The courses can be delivered in english if foreners students are present
- Specific training in scientific english will be obtained through seminars and courses in english. Training in general english will be obtaining through the courses of the linguistic center of UNIBO.
Expected research results and products
The main expected result in the phd thesis. Moreover the fellow could submit poster or short comunications to conferences or events.
