The University of Bologna has a new system for calculating tuition fees. All students pay based on their Equivalent Financial Situation Indicator (ISEE), irrespective of the degree programme that they enrol on.

Full exemption is granted for ISEE values up to €23,000.00. Above this threshold, the tuition fee increases proportionally to the ISEE value, with special subsidies for the lowest incomes.

To pay a tuition fee calculated based on your economic situation, you must submit the application before 15/12/2017.

Find out how to apply to have your tuition fee calculated based on your economic situation.

Obtaining your ISEE value takes several weeks, so apply for the certification now. To find out what the ISEE is and how to obtain it, see the ISEE Guide.

If you do not intend to submit the application, you will have to pay the maximum contribution amount for your degree programme, with the terms and conditions listed below.

Deadlines for payments

To enrol in the first year or subsequent years you must pay only the regional tax (€140.00), stamp duty (€16.00) and insurance cover (€1.64) by the expected deadlines.

The tuition fee will be determined in January 2018 and must be paid:

  • in two instalments—no later than 22/02/2018 and 31/05/2018—for students paying over €500
  • in one instalment—no later than 22/02/2018—for students paying up to €500

Merit requirements for students enrolling in years beyond the first year

If you are a student enrolling in a year beyond the first year, in order to have your tuition fee calculated based on your economic situation, you must also meet the following merit requirements:

  • you are enrolled within the first year without being aligned to the exam schedule
  • you have acquired 10 CFU credits from 11/08/2016 to 10/08/2017 if enrolled in the second year of the course
  • you have acquired 25 CFU credits from 11/08/2016 to 10/08/2017 if enrolled in subsequent years within the first year not aligned to the exam schedule

If you are enrolled in years subsequent to the first year not aligned to the exam schedule, the overall tuition fee may be determined based on your economic situation if:

  • the ISEE value for services for the right to higher education is at or below €30,000.00
  • you have acquired at least 25 credits (or passed at least two exams for courses under the previous degree programme system) from 11/08/2016 to 10/08/2017

A simulator that you can use to calculate the amount payable by entering your ISEE value is now available.
