Shortening of the degree programme

If you have a previous university career (you have already obtained a degree or have earned credits without completing your studies due to loss of student status or withdrawal, you have attended and passed single course units, you have taken exams abroad), you can apply for a shortened degree programme.

What to do

Pursuant to Article 5 of the Student Regulations, the application for recognition must be submitted in the academic year of matriculation by the final deadline for matriculation, that is, by 28 November 2024 at the latest.

Once you have enrolled, access Studenti Online and apply by clicking on “Shorten degree programme”, entering the details requested based on the information provided online, and paying the fee (100,00 €) and stamp duty.

Please note:

  • once you have paid, you cannot withdraw your application, irrespective of the Degree Programme Board’s decision;
  • the respective Degree Programme Board will assess your application and decide whether to recognise credits already earned so that you may skip the first year(s) of your programme. You cannot waive credits that have been officially recognised by the Degree Programme Board;
  • credit recognition may influence all the merit assessments required for getting special subsidies with regard to the right to higher education;
  • after requesting credit recognition, the amount of student tuition fees calculated for the academic year in question may be modified; in fact, the requirements set out in the Regulations for student tuition fees, which are described on the Tuition fees page, must be met.

For the recognition of extracurricular work experience please ask for information at the Student Administration Office.

If you have obtained your qualification abroad or taken exams abroad, in addition to the qualification required to access the degree programme, you must hand in to the Student Administration Office:

  • the original foreign qualification, translated, supported by confirmation of authenticity and documents concerning the value of the qualification (check the page "Translation, authenticity and value of foreign qualifications" for methods available and exemptions);
  • the original certificate listing the exams you have passed, translated and supported by confirmation of authenticity (check the page "Translation, authenticity and value of foreign qualifications" for methods available and exemptions).
    Important: the certificate listing the exams passed is not required if you submit a legalized Diploma Supplement containing the list of exams;
  •  the official syllabi of all the learning activities you completed to obtain the foreign academic qualification, or single course units taken abroad, translated into Italian. The syllabi must be accompanied by a declaration of the issuing institution, confirming their authenticity and correspondence with the activities completed by the student. This declaration must be attached to the syllabi and indicate the total number of pages; it has to be signed, stamped and supported by a confirmation of authenticity (check the page "Translation, authenticity and value of foreign qualifications" for methods available and exemptions). As an alternative, all pages must be signed, stamped and supported by a confirmation of authenticity.
