Admission requirements

1. Access requirements

Admission to the degree programme is subject to possession of a five-year secondary school diploma or suitable equivalent qualification obtained abroad, or a four-year secondary school diploma and diploma for the relative supplementary year, or where this is no longer active, students admitted will be assigned additional learning requirements.

2. Restricted access

Locally, the degree programme restricts the number of students (art. 1 L. 264/99) according to the resources available.

The number of students who may enrol and the process of selection will be published every year by a special Call for applications.

3. Knowledge requirement

One also needs the following:

- command of grammar and syntax in written and spoken Italian;

- the ability to grasp the central import of a spoken or written message;

- the ability to argue one's own case on a subject one knows;

- the ability to pick out the main differences between different theories regarding one and the same topic.

4. Knowledge assessment

With a view simply to testing whether the candidate possesses the knowledge needed for access, a pass-mark is set in the access test to this restricted-access degree programme.

Students who score lower than the pass-mark yet are admitted will be set an Additional Learning Requirement (known as an ‘OFA').

5. OFAs

Those scoring below the pass-mark will be set an OFA to improve their communications skills and inductive/deductive logic.

The Degree Programme will arrange a specific catch-up course; attendance is not compulsory but warmly recommended. For this OFA there will be a specific exam to pass.

The procedure for the OFA test will be decided in good time by the Degree Programme Board and published on the degree programme website.

The OFA is likewise deemed to have been fulfilled if all the first-year activities have been completed, with the exception of any elective course units.

Failure to make the OFA grade by the official deadline published on the University Portal means having to re-enrol for the year in question.

Ascertaining language skills

To be admitted to the programme you need to possess an A2 level of English as certified by the University Language Centre.

Students possessing the equivalent language certification may be exempted.

Those whose English is shown by the test to be lower than A2 will be marked as having an initial deficiency in language. Making good the deficiency is a prerequisite for taking further exams.

A test of B1 level English is scheduled for the first year of the Degree Programme for Educators in Early Childhood Services and this is a pre-requisite for all third-year exams. This means that students who had a deficiency in English (lower than A2) may not sit any third-year exams until they have passed the B1 level exam scheduled for the first year.

Specific learning outcomes of the Programme

The Bachelor Degree programme EDUCATOR IN EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES aims to provide the professional skills required by anyone wishing to become an educator in nursery services or a childcare worker in various community pre-school services and family support services such as play groups and parent-children centres. Designed to achieve these professional skills, the programme consists of three components:

- theoretical foundations (pedagogy, psychology, sociology and anthropology) allowing students to understand children's condition in contemporary society

- the main existing pedagogical and educational approaches

- the practical skills needed for providing education services in the community.

Particular attention will be paid to methodological expertise , providing graduates with appropriate educational planning skills based on in-depth educational needs analysis of individual children and groups. The programme also trains graduates to interact with children's families and provide parents with direct and indirect support.

Educators in Childhood Social Services complete their studies with knowledge of foreign languages to level B1. Study will here include acquisition of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking ) and compulsory attendance of lessons, following criteria to be specified by the study programme consistent with guidelines from the Academic Bodies.

The learning programme focuses particularly on internship periods in the various early-childhood services run by the Region, as well as practical workshops scheduled for the second half of the programme.
