Learning outcomes

The course is aimed to give a general understanding of the principles on which the current trade cooperation among States is based. At the end of the course, students must be able to apply the acquired knowledge to solve the issues which arise in the international arena in this field as well as in relation to the needs of a private actor.

Course contents

The course includes two different parts. The first part is dedicated to provide a general picture of the international law of world economy. The following institutions will be taken into account: World Bank, International Monetary Fund. The second part will be dedicated to the international trade law. It will focus the attention on the World Trade Organisation from three different perspectives: general institutional framework; regulation of the world trade; mechanisms of disputes resolution.

Teaching methods

Traditional teaching and case studies. Students are required to take part actively through the elaboration and the presentation of reports on specific issues. ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY.

Assessment methods

Assessment will include the active participation during the course, a mid-term exam and the elaboration and presentation of specific reports, according to the guidelines given by the teacher at the beginning of the course.

Teaching tools

The course will take into account the following tools: - treaties of the relevant International organisations; - cases issued by the mechanisms of resolution of disputes in the framework of WTO.
