Learning outcomes

Expertise in Economics and Management of cultural institutions and Policy making. Knowledge of Valuation of culture from economic perspectives; making up of policy tools; demand management.

Course contents

The course aims to provide students with the tools of economic analysis for the study of cultural markets (supply and demand for cultural goods and services) and public policy in the industry. From both a micro and macro perspectives it analyzes the respective roles of private agents (firms and consumers) and the public in the management and financing of cultural heritage. The theme of the economic valuation of goods mixed (public and private) which the cultural goods will be dealt with in the theoretical aspects, institutional and applied.

The examination aims to assess the achievement of the following learning objectives:
· Knowledge of methodological tools of economics and management discussed during the lectures
· Ability to use these tools to analyze the phenomena of economics and business and public policy
· Ability to use the results in order to interpret the phenomenon under study and to make decision-making processes

The examination is performed in writing exams - assessment in 30/30 - on the development of a essay. In addition to responding to some questions that concern the methods ("theoretical questions"), students will respond to cases of policy and management of cultural sites. as an alternative to the written test, the student can agree on the development of an essay / paper of about 10,000 words with original character.

Teaching tools

The course will also provide articles on specific topics, drawn mostly from journals of the areas of analysis such as the Journal of cultural economics (Kluwer), and Economia della cultura (Il Mulino), you may want to look for a more thorough discussion of some topics and for the preparation of any essays. Journals can be found on the specific web pages.
