Course contents

  • Cognitive Psychology and the Human Information Processing model
  • Evolution of the Central Nervous System and Mental Processes
  • Perception (main features of the process and deficits)

  • Attention (main process characteristics and deficits)
  • Memory (structures, main process characteristics and deficits)
  • Learning (classical conditioning, operant conditioning, social learning)
  • Emotions and motivational systems (brief mention)

 

  • The role of the psycho-social context around the patient and therapy on clinical outcomes, top-down modulation of pain, placebo and nocebo mechanisms)







Teaching methods

The course includes lectures and some practical exercises carried out in the classroom in order to better understand the functioning of some cognitive processes.

In addition, the activities foreseen within the laboratory aim to deepen the topics of the course through interactive methods and practical exercises carried out in groups and individually.

Assessment methods

The learning of the contents of the General Psychology course (Laboratory + Course) will be assessed through:

- a multiple-choice test consisting of 12 questions with 4 answer options (two wrong options, one partially correct but incomplete option, one correct and more complete option to which a score of 2 is given; no penalty for choosing the wrong answer); maximum score 24; the minimum score for the oral interview is 16.
-a short oral interview comprising a topic of the student's choice (the topic the student considers to be most interesting) and some bridging questions to other topics in the programme.
Up to two additional points may be added to the final mark for participation in the individual laboratory study.
