Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES TO BE ACHIEVED

The target of the course consists in giving students the necessary instruments to critically analize the contemporary political process related to public opinion dynamics.

At the end of the course students will be

  • aware of the political problems underlying contemporary societies;
  • able to identify the main national and international political contexts of the present age;
  • able to understand the main recurring elements in the political dynamics of the contemporary age;
  • able to analyse the news and reconstruct the contexts inside the information flow putting it in its historical context;
  • able to examine in depth the subject matters of the course by means of their own operative autonomy, and deliver the results of their own work in the context of the seminar;
  • able to use the acquired competence in the analysis of the present information process.

 

Course contents

CONTENTS

It will be brought to light how the political information after WWII has shaped public opinion. In particular, special attention will be paid to a relevant event in the national socio-political history as it was presented in the different interpretations of the press. The course will be organized as a seminar and attendees will be asked a work of research based on sources of the time, namely the main newspapers and most important cultural and political Italian magazines.

Classes will be held as seminars.

Assessment methods

Attendants: during the course students will be asked to write or speak about themes and materials assigned during classes.

Non- attendants: there will be oral tests based on the textbook or the monograph chosen by the student.
