Course contents
The laboratory Language and interaction in diverse environments: focus on schools focuses on the centrality of language and social interaction for classroom daily activities. The teaching and learning process will be observed and discussed from an interactional perspective. In this regard, we will discuss how various issues that are debated at the macro level (for example, specific educational ideologies, or concepts such as 'inclusion') are re-constructed and negotiated in and through dialogue, both between teachers and learners, and between learners.
This attention to the discursive and interactional dynamics of the classroom will be declined in relation to different aspects of daily activities at school. Among these, the workshop will deal with (a) linguistic and cultural diversity, addressing some of the central concerns related to the issue, (b) the role of the teacher with his/her discursive strategies and implicit educational ideologies, (c) the dynamics between children and the role of the peer group in classroom everyday life, (d) the process of social inclusion and exclusion at school.
An initial focus on the theoretical and methodological foundations of the laboratory will be followed by group work and various activities focused on the challenges that teachers and educators face in contemporary schools.
