Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student will get a mid-level competence in Armenian civilisation and language. He will be able to critically discuss topics studied in the course with suitable and up to date bibliographic references.

Course contents

The course aims to strenghten the competence acquired by attending the course of Cultura e lingua armena 1 and to present the development of literary history up to the beginning of the 20th century. The student can choose whether to continue the study of the ancient language only (grabar) or alternate it with that of the first grammatical elements of the modern Armenian language (ašxarhabar), with which parallels and comparisons will in any case be established. Passages (in italian) from medieval and modern authors (from 11th to 20th century) will be read and discussed within their cultural context. Short passages in ancient and/or modern language will also be read and grammatically analyzed. Monographic topic: the typical elements of an Armenian manuscript.

Attendance at the lessons is strongly recommended. Those students who cannot attend the course for exceptional reasons, are invited to contact the lecturer at least six months before the exam.

Starting date of the lessons: Wednesday 9 November.
