Academic Year 2022/2023

  • Moduli: Alessandro Dal Pozzo (Modulo 1) Gianmaria Pio (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Environment and Workplace Prevention Techniques (cod. 8487)

Learning outcomes

The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the most important technical and safety aspects characterizing the Chemical and Process Industry.

Course contents

The topics covered are:

- Definitions of Chemical Process, Unit Operation, Process Equipment, Process and Service Streams.

- Description of tools for process representation, i.e. Block Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).

- Characterization of process streams: thermodynamic state, flowrate (mass, molar and volumetric) and composition.

- Calculation of the main physico-chemical properties of the substances typically present in chemical plants, e.g. density and vapor pressure.

- Characterization of Unit Operations: mass and heat transfer mechanisms, mass balances for reactive and non-reactive systems.

- Definition of the hazardous properties of the substances.

- Definition of the types of risk typica of the Chemical and Process Industry.
