Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student acquires notions and methods of investigation of the compositional and design system of an artifact in its quality of interior spaces. He studies and knows the elements of the interior spaces and verifies their application through the design exercise of the possible devices of human living.

Course contents

The Interior Architecture course aims to explore the issues related to contemporary living space, characterized by the constant search for flexible solutions able to respond to changes in the way of use of the contemporary city.

Living space as precincts of inquiry that combines objective aspects - pathways and relationships between the parties, relationship with the environment, constraints and formal solutions - to subjective aspects - individual needs and perception of spaces - will be the subject of in-depth research aimed at finding a balance between formal result, functional solution and aesthetic quality.

The deepening of a living space within the project developed within the Design Laboratory will focus on the use of materials and light, on the study of dimensional relationships and proportions between the parties, on the quality of the relationships determined by the succession of spaces.

Teaching methods

In addition to educating a sensitivity able to relate large-scale design with architectural scale design, the course intends to acquire knowledge and methodologies of analysis on the dwelling system as a as finite space in relationship with the outside and to an understanding of the inner space home both as a complex setting of a set of relationships, and as a synthesis of formal and technical choices.

Assessment methods

The Architectural Design Laboratory II (C.I. 12 CFU) consists, in addition to the characterizing teaching of Architecture and Architectural Composition II (8 CFU), in a module of Characters of buildings II (2 CFU) and another one of Interior Architecture (2 CFU).

The examination of the Architectural Design Laboratory II includes the verification of the learning of the contents of all the teachings that make up the integrated Laboratory and takes place in a single exam.

The topics covered in class, the contents of the texts indicated in the bibliography and the design reflections elaborated within the Laboratory will be verified through:

- collective discussions in the classroom;

- intermediate verification seminars;

- ex tempore tests in the laboratory;

- discussion during the exam.

The final grade will be determined by the sum of the evaluations relating to the following criteria:

1 - Consistency of the project path (project and dossier I);

2 - Deepening of the project research (project and dossier II);

3 - Compliance of the project proposal with the requests (project);

4 - Ability to illustrate the project proposal: quality of the works and language properties (project and exam discussion);

5 - Knowledge of the disciplinary aspects addressed by the course of Distributive Features of Buildings II (written test and discussion during the examination);

6 - Knowledge of the disciplinary aspects addressed by the course of Interior Design (project and discussion during the examination).

Each criterion will be awarded 0 to 5 points. The elements considered for grading the score of each criterion are indicated in parenthesis.
