Course contents

Module 1: teachers Maria Pia Fantini, Davide Gori How to juggle official sources of information, gray literature and fast scientific communications. Examples and case studies of the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic experience.

Infodemic, fake news and the role of health professionals, especially doctors, to counteract misinformation.

The databases on which to find gray literature and current affairs at the time of the infodemic: ProQuest and Google Scholar.

The filtering of the results with the appropriate search strings and the critical appraisal of the literature found. (practical exercise)

Secondary literature: how should it be read? How many types of literature reviews are there and what cognitive questions do they answer? Meta-analyzes: what they are and what they can add.

The Publishing Process: Classic Journals vs. open access. Pros and cons. The preprint repositories (MedRxiv, BioRxiv, etc.): what can we repress on them? How do they work and what can they and cannot tell us? The case of new vaccines and communication with the general public.

Political reasons and scientific correctness. Procedures for the emergency approval of drugs and vaccines. What does it mean?
