Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will know how to intepret the characterisitcs of the contemporary city, qith particiular reference to the sustainable development goals. The student will know the main available tools and methods to understand, plan and desing the urban and rural areas, taking into account the peculiarities of the urban and rural contexts.
Course contents
Introduction to the course: climate change, urban challenges, SDGs and cities, etc.
Planning in a changing climate, but how is the climate changing?
Climate and environmental justice, emergency and crisis
Inclusive and resilient planning, what does it mean to plan for all?
Ecosystem services, Green and Blue Infrastructure and Nature Based solutions in planning;
Greening the city and Nature Based Solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation
Planning adaptation and regeneration in diverse environments: coastal areas, rural environment and mountainous areas
Planning adaptation in small islands
Scenario planning for resilient future
Readings/Bibliography
Main references will come from scientific articles.
Additional material will be provided to the students such as books media article or podcasts
Teaching methods
The course will include both traditional class and interactive workshops with the students. Depending on the number od students, group work may be developed to support peer to peer learning and exchange.
Assessment methods
There will be an oral exam at the end of the course (75%)
Group work and participation will also be part of the final evaluation (25%)
