Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide students with the essential tools of knowledge and analysis of the main legal and cultural traditions other than European in the human rights sector, according to a multidisciplinary and transversal approach

Course contents

The course aims to develop in the student a critical capacity for understanding and analyzing human rights through their contextualization in the framework of Islamic, Hindu, Confucian and Buddhist culture.

The course aims to reconstruct, first of all, in a historical and comparative perspective (diachronic and synchronic), models of recognition and protection of fundamental and social rights in legal traditions and legal systems different from the Western one. Ample space is then dedicated to the analysis of the instruments for the protection of human rights in Islamic law, in Hindu law, as well as in the law of the legal systems characterized by legal, social and religious conceptions different from the Western one (Confucian and Buddhist experiences) .

Teaching methods

Lectures will be articulated in the frontal lessons and in the side activities directed to the involvement of the students. In the lectures will be conducted the systematic presentation of the topics covered by the course, according to the program above.
Specialist seminars parallel to the course will be dedicated to the analysis of the protection of human rights in the Islamic system and in the Hindu system.
The lessons will be held in the first semester and therefore the students will be able to take the exam starting from January 2022.

Assessment methods

The exam will take place in oral form.
The exam will focus on the topics indicated in the "Program and contents" section.
The evaluation of the test will be carried out taking into consideration:
knowledge of institutional profiles;
the ability to analyze the jurisprudential and doctrinal guidelines;
the ability to make connections between the different parts of the program;
the ability to develop critical arguments;
the exposure articulation;
the accuracy of the exposure.

THESIS
The degree theses are assigned by Prof. Luca Mezzetti after an interview. After assigning the title, the teacher will indicate to the student a tutor, who will follow him/her during the elaboration of the research work.


Teaching tools

In order to facilitate the assimilation of concepts, also through the visualization of logical links, the illustration of the institutes will be constantly accompanied by the distribution of doctrinal and jurisprudential materials.
Students who for reasons of disability or specific learning disabilities (DSA) need compensatory tools will be able to communicate to the teacher their needs so as to be directed to the contacts and agree on the adoption of the most appropriate measures.
