Learning outcomes

The course requires a sound background in EU Law and aims at offering an in-depth knowledge of the principles of the EU legal order, with particular regard to the functioning of the internal market and of the rights of EU citizens. The highly interactive nature of the course is intended to enhance the analytical skills of the students, as well as their legal reasoning and their oral and written presentation abilities.

Course contents

The programme will cover: the european integration from the  ECSC Treaty to the Lisbon Treaty; principles, objectives and values of the internal market; free circulation of goods and the mutual recognition principle; consumers protection; free circulation of persons and the EU citizenship; free circulation of capitals; the competition rules and the prohibition of State aid; the importance for the discipline of these matters acquired by the Court of Justice case law and by the impact of the primacy of the european law on the member States law; the institution of the economic and monetary policy; the safeguard of the euro zone and the difficult relationship between the Court of Justice and certain national supreme courts.

Teaching methods

Lectures with the discussion of case law and practical cases about the subject.

Assessment methods

The assessment of students takes place through an oral examination designed to evaluate the knowledge acquired by the student during the course and the critical analysis developed by the studying of case law.

Teaching tools

Lectures will be supported by the presentation of slides throgh the use of the projector and the PC.
