Learning outcomes
At the end of the cours of lessons, the students will be able to know the most important authors of Italian Literature, above all Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio.
Course contents
SOME PERSPECTIVES ON DANTE (TRUE, FAKE, FALSE). The sixty hours of the 12 CFU course will be divided into 4 modules of 15 hours each.
1. TELLING OR INVENTING A LIFE Some recent Dante biographies will be compared with that by Mario Tobino.
2. VIR SAPIENS Some aspects of the figure of Dante will be considered: the poet and theologian, the politician, the philosopher, the "magician" (or assumed such), the prophet.
3. DANTE AND HIS TIME IN THE WRITINGS OF G. CARDUCCI Carducci's Dante writings will be read and some characteristics will be established (philological, ideological, political, pedagogical) that marked the absolute originality of that approach and its relevance for what Dante's twentieth century would have been.
4. A CONTROVERSE CASE: WHAT WAS BRUNETTO LATINI'S SIN?

ATTENDING STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE ONE TEXT FOR THE FIRST AND THE SECOND PART OF THE COURSE. NON ATTENDING STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED INSTEAD TO TAKE THE ENTIRE PROGRAM TO THE (ORAL) EXAM.
Teaching methods
Lectures should be a sort of dialogue between the teacher and his students.
Assessment methods
The test consists of an oral exam on the topics covered in class and on the texts in the exam program (with the distinctions mentioned for attending and non-attending students). There are no written tests or term papers.
