Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide participants with the conceptual frameworks needed to take strategic decisions at business level, paying attention to the coherence between internal resources and competences, market variables and long terms goals.

Course contents

  1. The meaning of strategy
  2. The analysis of the competitive environment
  3. The value creation: the resources, the competences and the value system
  4. The nature and the sources of the competitive advantage
  5. The business strategies in the different competitive environments
  6. Corporate strategies
  7. Growth strategies: diversification, integration and internationalization
  8. External growth strategies

    WRITTEN EXAMINATION

    Course assessment consists in a written examination with:

    1) two or three essay-style questions

    2) from 5 to 8 multiple choices. Each question can have more than one right answer.

    The evalutation will be:

    • right answer: 1 point
    • wrong answer: -0,5 point

    COURSE ASSESSMENTS

    Students can choose to split the course assessment in two parts.  Only for students attending classes it is possible to integrate written examination with work group on case study analysis.

    Student choosing a final course assessment: grade=totale grade in the written examination

    Student choosing two parts assessment: grade:=(grade first part*50/100)+(grade second part*50/100)

    Student choosing two parts assessment and group work: grade= (grade first part*35/100)+(grade second part*35/100)+(grade work group*30/100)

    STUDENT PARTECIPATION

    Student participation with comments and questions on readings, cases and presentations will be evaluated till 1 extra point

    SCORE REJECTION

    It is possible to reject the score only once.
