Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have a general view of information communication technologies and their applications to the field of cultural heritage. In particular the student will acquire mechanisms and tools to document restoration and preservation processes, to exploit works and to store analytical data obtained from diagnostics survey. In particular the student will be able to manage information technologies and tools within the above mentioned environments.

Metadata and catalogue systems:
  • Metadata types and functions
  • XML (eXtensible Markup Language): elements and attributes, DTD –Document Type Definition
  • Metadata applied to cultural heritage: Dublin Core, ICCD, PICO AP, ecc.
Multimedia Systems:
  • Introduction to multimedia systems
  • Analogical media digitalization
  • Digital images

Readings/Bibliography

No textbook is needed, since all the didactical materials will be available on the e-learning platform.

Teaching methods

  • Lectures.
  • Exercises in lab.

Assessment methods

The final exam aims to evaluate if the goals of the class have been reached:

- to learn concepts about information communication technologies and their applications to the field of cultural heritage;

- to acquire mechanisms and tools to document restoration and preservation processes and to store analytical data obtained from diagnostics survey.

The final mark is defined through a oral exams (which evaluates the knowledge of main concepts and theoretical aspects) and through the evaluation of projects developed during the practices in the lab.
