Learning outcomes

The student, at the end of the module, thanks to the knowledge of the fundamental principles of chemistry and organic molecules of biological interest, is able to evaluate biological and biochemical parameters in biological samples and in vivo, also in relation to pathophysiological states, at different levels of structural organization, from single molecules to cells, tissues, organs, up to the whole organism.

  • The pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of laboratory investigations.
  • Biological, pre-analytical and analytical variability.
  • Clinical indications, contraindications, side effects and complications.
  • Types of laboratory tests: routine, urgency, emergency.
  • Screening tests
  • From the patient to the laboratory test: patient preparation, collection, treatment and storage of samples

Assessment methods

The assessment of the knowledge acquired by the student is based on a single exam for the Integrated Course of Pathological Sciences, in written form and consisting of 60 multiple choice questions (30 questions concerning the teaching of General Pathology and Immunology, 10 of Clinical Biochemistry, 10 of Clinical Pathology and 10 of General Pharmacology). The total time allowed for the exam is 50 minutes. For the health emergency due to COVID-19, the examination will be carried out remotely until new provisions are made.
