Learning outcomes

At the end of this module students will

-  to identify the main ethical issues arising in the communication between doctor and patient, and between healthcare institutions and citizens

- to discuss simple reality-based cases

Course contents

Introductory course, no background in philosophy is required.

- What is Ethics, what is deontology

- Main contemporary ethical frameworks (Principlist, virtue, feminist and case-based ethics)

- Ethics in doctor-patient communication

- Ethics in healthcare institution-citizen communication

Teaching methods

Online classes, discussion of examples.

Assessment methods

Oral colloquium. The test is passed with correct answers to 2 question. Further questions can be added in order to assess further the student's level of competence. 

Imprecise language and uncovered parts of syllabus can lower the final evaluation.
