90391 - Laboratory for Numerical Methods M

Academic Year 2020/2021

  • Docente: Fiorella Sgallari
  • Credits: 3
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Electronic Engineering (cod. 0934)

Learning outcomes

The course is in parallel with the course 73183 - METODI NUMERICI M and provides  foundations of numerical methods and demonstrates their use with engineering examples. For each class of problems, scientific computing algorithms are reviewed, theoretical analyses are carried out and the expected results are verified using MATLAB

Course contents

Matlab exercises on

  • Direct and iterative methods for solving large linear systems
  • Numerical solution of large nonlinear systems
  • Polynomial interpolation
  • Numerical solution of Partial differential Equations: Finite Difference Methods.

Application of the studied numerical methods to problems of image processing.

Teaching methods

Classes are held in didactic laboraotires and exercises and projects are based on the course 73183 - NUMERICAL METHODS M. The necessary theory will be summarized.

Assessment methods

The exam consists in the realization and discussion of a project assigned during the lessons.

Teaching tools

The course is carried out entirely in the laboratory using advanced software packages.
