81894 - Methods for Calculation and Structural Verification of Industrial Products

Academic Year 2020/2021

  • Docente: Stefano Fini
  • Credits: 5
  • SSD: ING-IND/14
  • Language: Italian
  • Moduli: Stefano Fini (Modulo 1) Francesco Robusto (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Advanced Design (cod. 9256)

Learning outcomes

The course aims at teaching the methods of calculation and structural analysis of the components of industrial products. The loading and constraint systems will be examined, both statically and dynamically. Traditional and finite elements methods (FEM) will be used for calculating the components with a strong connection to the subject of Industrial Design 3 course.

Course contents

The rigid bodies equilibrium: forces, moments and constraints.

External stresses on components: diagrams and maximum values.

Internal tensions within components: diagrams and maximum values.

Stiffness of mechanical components.

Static moments and moments of inertia into the beam cross sections.

Mechanical properties of materials.

Mechanical joints.

Endurance limit and fatigue failure of components.

Readings/Bibliography

The teaching material necessary for the course will be provided by the teacher during the lessons.

Teaching methods

During the lectures the main problems associated with the design of structural components and their connections will be addressed. The practical lectures will be collective and dedicated to the real application of theoretical lessons learned in class by students.

Assessment methods

1. Written exam (lasting about two hours) with an exercise on the main parts of the program

2. Oral interview on the project to be carried out during the course (within the session). For those who do not present the project there is an oral test on the course topics.
