Learning outcomes

The course of Hygiene and Infectious Diseases will supply the students with the basic principles about the general and applied hygiene and about general and specific knowledge of clinical syndromes sustained by infectious agents. In detail, the students will learn the basic principles regarding etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases, with particular reference to theinfectious illnesses related to their next profession.

Introduction to the Infectious Diseases: actual and future scenario, the global challenges, the diagnostic approach, the principles of Pathogenesis and the route of transmission.

The Healthcare associated Infections: definitions, epidemiology and clinical caracteristics.

The severity of Infections, the concept of Sepsis and Septic Shock: definition, diagnosis and epidemiology.

Principles of microbiological diagnosis.

Principles of antimicrobial therapy.

Vascular catheter-related infections.

Infective Endocarditis.

Osteoarticular Infections.

Meningitis and other Central Nervous Sistem Infections.

Infective diarrhea.

Urinary tract Infections.

Skin and soft tissues Infections.

Respiratory Infections, focus on Pneumonia.

Tuberculosis.

Fever in the returning traveller.

Vector-borne infections.

The Infections in the immunocompromised host.
