Learning outcomes
The course aims to explain the function of policy-making and planning in tourism by providing key concepts of tourism economics and governance of tourist destinations, and comparing and contrasting different national approaches of tourist policies. By the end of the course, students should be able to apply the basic tools of tourism policy and planning to a variety of international tourist destinations as well as to analyse situations and evaluate feasible solutions.

Teaching methods
During the 60 teaching hours, respective arguments will be confronted in the order indicated in the program. After introducing the underlying theory behind the topics covered, presentation of country case studies will be carried out.
Assessment methods
The course will include a group project presentation (40%), and a final examination (60%) which will include Topic 1: Tourism Planning (20%) and Topic 2: Tourism Policy (40%).
Students can reject the grade obtained at the written exam once. To this end, he/she must email a request to the instructor within the date set for registration. The instructor will confirm reception of the request within the same date.
Those who do not take part in the country presentation (Topic 3: Country Case Studies on Tourism Policy and Planning) will be taking a longer "Full Exam" which will also includes 40% with questions from all country presentations carried out by other students. The presentations will be made available online.
