Learning outcomes

The students will be expected to have a good knowledge of discourse strategies and will be able to apply these skills to text-analysis and translation. Through practical exercises, their communicative competencies in all the abilities, active and passive, will reach a C2 level of the European Common Framework which will provide them with sufficient skills to effectively interpret socio-linguistic and cultural codes of people involved in a communicative rapport.

Course contents

Analysis and translation of different textual typologies; viewing and translating short video clips or film tracks.
Textual typologies:
1) Translation of literary passages
2) Translation of journalistic texts
3) Translation of texts from blogs and websites
4) Subtitling

The Chinese texts to be translated and analyzed will be available on the IOL page of the course.

Frontal lessons and tutorials.

Assessment methods

Oral exam:

The exam consists of two parts of 30/30 scores each. The final score is the mathematical average of the marks obtained in the two parts.

  • Analysis and translation of 6 short extracts of the passages presented during the course; 5 points each (joint exam Prof.ssa Sparvoli and Prof.ssa Codeluppi).
  • Questions in Chinese on the content of the pieces presented during the course (Prof. Guiping Hu). Assessment criteria: the ability to read, understand and comment in Chinese the considered texts. The first question will be on《我 和 地 坛》, while the second will focus on one of the following three texts:《我 只想 抱抱 小时候 的 自己》 , 《水 从来 不 着急》 , 《煮 雪》.
