Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students know the main diseases of the eye and the visual system in early, adult, and old age; students know ocular manifestations in systemic and craniofacial diseases; students know ophthalmic semeiology with its implications in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular, otorhinolaryngological, dental, neurologic, and internistic diseases.

Course contents

Pathology of the orbit and adnexa; eyelid pathology; the red eye: conjunctivities and keratities; open- and closed-angle glaucoma; cataracts; uveities; vitreous and vitreo-retinal diseases; optic nerve and visual pathways diseases; strabismus and ocular motility disorders; ocular manifestations of systemic diseases.

Teaching methods

Frontal lectures in presence or via the Teams platform

Assessment methods

Multiple choice test: 31 quizzes with multiple answers (9 for Ophthalmology, 7 for Audiology, 7 for Otolaryngology, 8 for Dentist Medicine and surgery). By assigning 1 point for each exact question, the student will be able to obtain a mark of 30 and Praise if he/she correctly answers all the questions and consequently the mark will drop by one unit for each wrong question. Therefore the mark of 18 will coincide with 18 correct questions out of 31. Duration: 1 h. As an alternative, possibility of oral exam by request concerning the program. No phones or textbooks are allowed. During the pandemic, an oral examination will take place remotely via the teams platform.
