Learning outcomes

The student who already knows basic translation tools (such as use of dictionaries, grammars, corpora, etc.) and methodology, will use them in a wide range of more complex text types and will recognise and employ the more adequate translation strategy according to the main comunicative functions of the texts.

Course contents

The Translation from Chinese into Italian module (40 hours/5 CFU) includes the study of basic translation techniques to translate from Chinese into Italian long, complex sentences and texts of various type and thematic area.

At the end of the course the students will be able to focus on the analysis of textual, syntactical and lexical peculiarities of Chinese language and to know which traslation strategies adopting according to the main functions of the texts assigned.

Teaching methods

Student participatory lectures with practical exercises in translating from Chinese into Italian.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist in translating one text from Chinese into Italian and from Italian into Chinese of the same type of those translated during the entire course. The exam will last three hours.

Students will be allowed to use monolingual and bilingual dictionaries only.

Texts on paper, books, dictionaries and online dictionaries, ppt. The ppt files and texts will be available on the IOL Platform and the Moodle e-learning platform (http://moodle.sslmit.unibo.it/).
