Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student knows and is able to understand the clinical applications of psychology in different fields. The student knows, in the field of healthcare, aspects of psychological distress and recognizes the main reactions of the person to illness, suffering and hospitalization respecting behavioral differences related to the culture of belonging.

Course contents

Sick role and illness behavior.

Manifestations and classification of abnormal illness behavior.

Illness perception and coping strategies towards physical illness and disability.

Psychological correlates of spinal cord injury.

Psychological correlates of musculoskeletal disorders.

Physiotherapist-patient relationship.

Job strain, burnout and psychological resilience in health care workers.

Psychological implications of caregiving.

Psychotherapeutic interventions.

Teaching materials will be available through username and password at the IOL online Platform.

References to suggested readings will be provided in the teaching materials.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons with clinical exemplifications for a total of 24 hours.

Assessment methods

The final evaluation of Clinical Psychology is a written exam consisting of 31 multiple-choice questions. The evaluation will last for 30 minutes. The correct answer to all the 31 questions corresponds to a score of 30 cum laude.

The evaluation of the Psychological and Pedagogical Science (I.C.) will be the mean of the evaluations achieved in the three courses of the I.C.
