Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have a preparation that allows to know the basics of Orthodontics. In particular, the student is able to: know etiology and epidemiology of malocclusions; recognize the indications for orthodontic treatment; know the basics of cephalometry; differential diagnosis of malocclusions; organize an environment of orthodontic work; recognize and use appropriately the main orthodontic instruments; place brackets on typodonts; perform simple bends on the wires.

Development of the dentition

Phases of the dentition (deciduous, mixed and permanent)

Classification of malocclusions

Examination of orthodontic patient
  history
  examination
  oral habits
  basic instrumental tests (impressions, x-rays and photos)

Evaluation of the growth phase (wrist and cervical vertebrae)

Biology of tooth movement

Biomechanics of orthodontic tooth movement
