Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student must comprehend the main ideas of complex written and oral texts applied to concrete as well as abstract topics, including those in their area of specialization. They must know how to linguistically interact with the correct approach and ease as native speakers. They must be able to explain their point of view with appropriate and articulate reasoning.

 

Course contents

The use of the English language in its written and spoken form applied in the fields of the Arts. Focus will be placed on the micro and macro linguistic elements used, as well as their psychological impact in order to allow the student to comprehend the English  written text and create the same content and impact in their native language.

Given the ongoing emergency situation, detailed information regarding reference material will be communicated during the first lesson so that the needs of off-campus students can be met as those students which have physical access to the University’s libraries.

Students are strongly urged to check and confirm their status as participants on the course’s VIRTUALE platform in order to receive direct notices via email.

All material will be uploaded on VIRTUALE.

Teaching methods

Lessons are conducted in English. Multimedia may be employed and students are expected participate with active feedback and discussions.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the current health emergency, teaching will be carried out entirely online.

The course has a total of 30 hours conducted via TEAMS and the Unibo IOL platform which will include exercises. It will always be possible to connect online and participate in the lessons held in live streaming.

During the first lesson all the details and methods of the course and the teaching tools used will be presented. The course includes the support of slides, audiovisual aids, web sources, and the sharing of teaching materials via IOL.

Assessment methods

A written exam will evaluate the linguistic skills of reading comprehension and translation.

A successful final mark may be refused only once.

The student is expected to demonstrate a B1 level, which will correspond to a final mark of 25/30 or higher.

Teaching tools

Materials will be made available on the University's online platform VIRTUALE. Students will be required to download available documents and to regularly check for updates.

All students must have MS TEAMS and ZOOM correctly installed with their Unibo credentials.
