Learning outcomes

This course aims to provide graduate with knowledge on the pathological bases of main human disorders.

Course contents

Elements of General Pathology

  -Alterations to the DNA sequence
-Mutagens and damage to the DNA 
-Viral and bacterial infections

Tumors

  -Cancerogenesis 
-Oncogenes and Tumor Suppressor Genes
-Cancer development risk factors
-Tumorigenic viral infections

Obesity and Diabetes

  -Aetiology of Obesity
-Aetiology of Diabetes

Ageing

  -Aging mechanisms and age-related diseases
-Age-associated Cronic inflammation: Inflammaging

At the beginning of the integrated course (I.C.), students will receive indication on updated didactic materials produced in electronic format. Assessment methods

The final exam aims to assess the achievement of the following teaching objectives:

- Understanding of the pathological bases of diseases

- Understanding of the etiopathological mechanisms underlying cancerogenesis, obesity and diabetes

- Understanding the role of aging and inflammation in the onset of diseases

The final grade is defined by a multiple choice written test.
