Learning outcomes

Students are in command of the basic strategies requested from liason interpreters and know how to use them in simple interacting sessions

Course contents

The course offers an introduction in liaison interpreting, i.e. what is liaison interpreting, in which settings does it occur, what is expected from interpreters, how does an interpreter prepare for an assignment, what kind of professional ethics does this job imply, how are liaison assignments typically performed. Moreover, students will be asked to act as an interpreters in the class during interpreting sessions dealing with various - initially simple - topics.

Teaching methods

In class, students will serve as interpreters in interpreting sessions dealing with topics prepared at home and discussed within class. Excellent knowledge of Italian and German is mandatory.

After each session, the students will receive a detailed, accurate feedback focusing on their strengths, as well as recommendations for improvement.

Deontology and professional status of interpreters will be discussed whenever relevant, as well as hints and suggestions about how to start a career

Exam: liason interpreting session about topics discussed during the term
