69278 - French Language and Culture I (Second Language)

Academic Year 2019/2020

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Intercultural and Linguistic Mediation (cod. 8059)

Course contents

Lessons will be held twice a week during first term.

The French language and culture module aims to boost your knowledge to a B1.1 level (even from A1 level). The course will develop the four skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking through intensive practice and a communicative and action-oriented approach.

Accessible even at a beginner's level thanks to the support of laboratory exercises (annual), we advise true beginners and false beginners to agree with the teacher on a personalized learning path in order to achieve the level required by the end of the academic year 2019-2020.

The course will focus on:

  • reading comprehension of documents chosen in the light of current themes in French society
  • oral comprehension of radio and television extracts
  • written production of texts from a range of contexts
  • speaking skill exercises to enhance language expression
  • expansion of vocabulary for different situations in everyday life
  • grammatical skills: comparison of different grammatical structures, syntax and morphology to ensure linguistic quality without interference between the source language and target language.

Teaching methods

The French language and culture module will focus on practical exercises in the classroom (individual / group work) and written homework assignments every week (via the Moodle e-learning platform) to reach autonomy in language skills.

The French language module will be supported by laboratory exercises (pronunciation, vocabulary and grammatical skills) in close collaboration with the lecturer (compulsory).

The readership will be divided into two groups: group 1 (beginner students and false beginners) group 2 (intermediate/advanced level students).

The grammar preparation provided as part of the course must be completed autonomously by the student (see Bibliography)

Students must attend 70% of classes held and active participation is required.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of two compulsory parts: a written test and an oral test.

The written test includes:

  1. grammar (1 hour),
  2. oral comprehension (30 minutes)
  3. written examination (200/250 parole - 1 hour)

The oral examination includes:

  • culture: questions relating to readings listed in the bibliography (written and audiovisual material taken from the website www.campusfrance.org/fr).

For more information, please consult the Moodle page.

The use of dictionaries is not permitted.

The oral exam can only be taken once you have passed the written exam.

The final registered mark will be an average of the mark for each subject: written French exam / oral French exam / French/Italian dialogue interpreting.
