Learning outcomes

The student - knows the basic features (terms, concepts and methods) needed for the study of the structure, functions and textual organization of the Spanish language - knows the basic techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts - is able to understand, analyze and coherently produce complex written texts (but also oral speeches) belonging to various specialized text types and genres, particularly multimedia ones

Course contents

The course is divided into two modules. Module A deals with writing content for the Internet; the contents of Module B will be communicated later.

Module A is organized into two combined parallel pathways aimed to promote professional writing in media communication, both digital and in print (as in traditional media: e.g. newspapers).

Path 1 focuses on professional writing exercises in Spanish that will be completed once a week. The genres and styles of writing will be highlighted and contrasted.

Path 2 will allow students to develop a website with a topic of their choice, with the default suggestion to create their own freelance translator page.

Teaching methods

The course requires the student to attend 70% of the course. The lessons are designed as a laboratory. The active participation of all students in the proposed exercises is required.

Assessment methods

The course vote will be based on the average of the votes for modules A and B. The grade for module A is defined by the drafting exercises (50%), and the quality of the personal website (50%). The website must be delivered in the last week of classes, but will be worked throughout the semester, both in and out of class.

Teaching tools

Lessons will take place in a classroom equipped with computer support and Internet connection.
