Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student has acquired deep knowledge on the principal diagnostic procedures for the etiological diagnosis of infectious diseases and has developed capacities for the critical evaluation and interpretation of the laboratory results.

Course contents

Microbiology of upper and lower respiratory tract infections
 
Microbiology of infections of the digestive system

Microbiology of cardiovascular infections, and diagnostic utility of blood culture

Microbiology of the central nervous system infections

Microbiology of infections of skin, muscle, bone and joints

Microbiology of the urinary tract infections and anogenital infections
 
Diagnosis of maternal, fetal and newborn infections

Microbiology of infections in immunocompromised patients

Teaching methods

Lectures for a total of 16 hours (2CFU)

Assessment methods

The exam will be held jointly Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry. Each candidate will be asked two questions on the topics of the three disciplines selected by the commission. In the event that the student requests it, a third question will be asked concerning the discipline not covered by the first two questions. The final grade will correspond to the average of the marks obtained in the individual questions. To pass the exam, the student should report the sufficiency in each of the individual question.
