  • Credits: 6
  • SSD: MAT/08
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (cod. 8887)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has acquired the knowledge and specialized methodologies for the development of numerical algorithms, with particular reference to the solution of problems typical of the process industry.

Course contents

Prerequisites. The student knows the mathematical analysis and geometry  taught in the courses of Mathematical Analysis T-1, T-2 and Geometry and Algebra T.

All lectures will be held in Italian. It is therefore necessary to understand the Italian language to successfully attend the course and to be able to use the educational material provided.

Contents
Definition of numerical problems and main sources of error.
Conditioning of a problem. Stability of an Algorithm.
Numerical solution of linear systems
Problem with least squares
Methods for equations and non-linear systems.
Polynomial interpolation.
Numerical integration.
Ordinary differential equations

Lectures and guided laboratory exercises

Assessment methods

The final exam consists of the Laboratorio di Informatica and Analisi Numerica T tests.

Laboratorio di Informatica:practical laboratory test.

Analisi Numerica T: laboratory tests performed during the course and  final written test. The written exam consists of a set of questions, of which about 50% questions of theory and 50% exercises. No notes, codes and personal texts are admitted during the written exam.

Teaching tools

Slides, texts and library functions used in the lessons will be available  on the e-learning platform.
