Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students can translate and edit historical texts in digital format.

Course contents

TELEMACO Laboratory is mainly addressed to students of Second Cycle Degrees devoted to the study of the Ancient Greek and Roman world (History and Oriental Studies - curriculum History Studies, Ancient History area; Philology, Literature and Classical Tradition). The aim is to teach how to translate (in Italian and in English) ancient Greek and Latin documentary texts (inscriptions and papyri); how to edit them in digital format; how to make them available online. Markup languages for ancient documentary texts will be explored.

The laboratory offers 10 places and is reserved to students who know Greek and Latin and have previous knowledge of papyri and/or inscriptions. Applications with a brief statement concerning skills and previous experiences should be addressed to alice.bencivenni2@unibo.it before October 31, 2018.

Readings/Bibliography

Texts to be edited will be assigned during the first lecture.

Teaching methods

Students will work autonomously on assigned texts, being guided by the teacher during lectures.

Assessment methods

Learning level will be checked during each lecture, with a final assessment on the translations edited by the students.

Teaching tools

Lectures will be held at Laboratorio informatico, DiSCi, sezione di Storia Antica, via Zamboni 38.
