Learning outcomes

The students, at the end of the course, are able to aquire the main notions for interpreting the results of the main laboratory diagnostic tests related to blood and urin exam.

Course contents

Blood sampling. Tubes and color code. Counting of blood cells with automated white blood cell differential count. Anemia: classification and principal cases. Tests for the diagnosis of hemostasis and thrombotic disorders. Proteins of the serum. Cardiologic assays: hyperdislipidemies, C-reactive protein, glycemia, atrial natriuretic peptide. Urine examination (physical, chemical, sediment). Laboratory tests to evaluate liver and kidney functionality.

Frontal lessons with Power Point presentation.

Assessment methods

The evaluation of the knowledge acquired by the students is based on the administration of a single questionnaire composed of 60 questions for the Integrated Course of Pathological Sciences, with multiple choice (4 choices) and a correct answer. Questions will be distributed as follows: 30 questions regarding the teaching of General Pathology and Immunology and 10 questions for each of the remaining courses (Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology and General Pharmacology). The total time allowed for the examination is 60 minutes. The test is considered passed positively from 37 correct answers, corresponding to 18/30 vote.
