Learning outcomes

The student will increase his knowledge in pharmacology through the study of the benefit/risk ratio and the place in therapy of the most important drug classes used in clinical practice.

Course contents

1. Drug-drug interactions. Classification and examples.
2. Drug information sources with examples.
3. Anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistamines and immunosuppressants.
4. Drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
5. Drugs for the treatment of respiratory diseases.
6. Drugs for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
7. Antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral drugs.
8. Overview of neuropharmacology and psychopharmacology.
9. Overview of antineoplastic pharmacology with a focus on targeted therapy.
10. Poisons and antidotes.

Teaching methods

During the lectures the main pharmacological classes of drugs will be presented with details on clinical uses, methods of use and tolerability profiles. For each therapeutic class the main news from the scientific literature will be briefly presented.

Assessment methods

The assessment of the knowledge acquired by the student will be in oral form by the formulation of three questions relating to all topics covered in class.
