Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student knows the general principles of radiation protection. The L. 187/2000, the L. 230/95 and 241/2000. The reduction of the dose in each radiological diagnostics, the individual dosimetry. The LDR, the quality controls on the equipment. The radiation protection of the environment and the management of radioactive waste.

  1. Principles of radiation protection
  2. Radiation protection legislation in EU and Italy
  3. History and development of radiation protection .
  4. Radiation protection and Pregnancy: deterministic and stochastic effects on the fetus.
  5. Operational Radiation protection in practices of external beam radiotherapy , brachytherapy and radionuclide therapy .
  6. Operational Radiation protection in Intraoperative radiotherapy.
  7. Analysis of accidents and incidents in radiotherapy : Causes , Effects, Prevention .
  8. Operational radiation protection in diagnostic radiology .
  9. Operational radiation protection in Nuclear Medicine .
  10. Principles of internal dosimetry as a Result of Radioactive Contamination.

Teaching methods

Assessment methods

Oral examination in which the student is invited to discuss the topics covered during lessons, exposed in recommended texts and in teaching material presented and discussed in class.
The interview will be assessed on the basis of the following parameters:
-knowledge, mastery and depth of content
-critical ability and expository skills
-scientific and technical correct terminology.
