Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have basic knowledge and ability to recognize the most common pathological disorders of the child. He will acquire knowledge about problems of the premature baby, the newborn baby at risk. 

Course contents

The newborn: physiology and adapting to postnatal life.
Premature newborn: physiology and clinical complications 
Obstetric brachial plexus injury
Growth: growth regulation factors ,  anthropometry, body proportions, shape and size of the skull;
Growth disorders: clinical features, etiology  and therapy; short stature and  endocrine aspects: hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid and IGF1 axis. Short stature without endocrine causes.
Gigantism
Puberty:  physiology and pathology.
Obesity

Genetic diseases and congenital malformations: dysmorphology  and rehabilitation physiotherapy.
Respiratory system: Delineation of the signs and symptoms common to the dysfunction of the cardio-circulatory and respiratory systems and the interactions of the main diseases susceptible to respiratory rehabilitation. In particular: Inflammation of the upper respiratory, pneumonia and bronchopneumonia, cystic fibrosis, asthma.
Exanthematous diseases: the major infectious diseases, and complications, vaccinations and complications.
Neonatal screenings.
Rheumatic disease: major medical diagnostic procedures: clinical aspects, laboratory tests, radiological investigations.
Neuro-muscular diseases with detection of the signs and prognosis of progressive muscular dystrophy, congenital myopathies, spinal muscular atrophy and myasthenia gravis.
