Learning outcomes

On completion of the course students - know the main connections between the event of migration and learning processes, particularly second generation immigrants - KNOW phenomena associated with the outbreak of the difference in its various manifestations (gender, language, religion ) - KNOW interpretative models of the phenomenon of difference in post-modern society - know the issues related to multiculturalism and interculturalism in the current debate - are able to apply techniques for the construction of pathways and evaluation of intercultural education in non-school contexts -can applycategorization processes related to the formation of stereotypes and prejudices from the perspective of overcoming ethnic strife or otherwise linked to the phenomenon of differences -know historical dynamics, social and cultural attitudes and behaviors that lead to racist or otherwise waste and / or intolerance of difference.

Course contents

The course sets out to analyse the changes taking place in post-modern society and to identify cultural and social differences and conflicts that are linked to these phenomena. The course focuses on the development of plural and multicultural societies and reflections on educational process.

The course also looks at the following topics; diversity and differences, stereotypes, prejudices, building social relationships, conflict and conflict management, racism and war, dialogue and listening, mediation and negotiation.

This will lead to a study of ways of creating the means of valorising differences and overcoming ethnic conflict through mediation negotiation and non-violent methods
