ALMAWIFI FAQs

The most frequently asked questions about the ALMAWIFI network.

I have heard of the University of Bologna’s wireless network. How do I recognise it?

The wireless network of the University of Bologna, managed by CeSIA, is called ALMAWIFI.

I am unable to access the network using my account, what am I doing wrong?

We recommend:

  • checking that the ALMAWIFI signal is active;
  • making sure that your University account is active. Once you have completed your Degree Programme or finished your work at the University of Bologna, you will no longer be able to access ALMAWIFI;
  • check the instructions for the operating system installed on your computer;
  • make sure you correctly enter your username, password and the domain (STUDENTS -  @studio.unibo.it | STAFF - @unibo.it).

I have just been pre-accredited and I can't connect to ALMAWIFI, why?

You must change the password you were assigned. To do so, access the Directory Service d'Ateneo (DSA) from a fixed computer using the initial data you were given and change your password from the "utilities" section under "change your password".

What services are available when accessing with the STUDENTS domain?

With the STUDENTS domain the following services are active:

  • HTTP/HTTPS (TCP/80 TCP/443);
  • SSH (TCP/22);
  • PROXY (TCP/8080);
  • DNS (TCP/53). For security reasons only the DNS of the University of Bologna, assigned automatically by the system on connection, can be used;
  • the protocol ports needed to run the student e-mail service and those for printing in the Libraries with the managed and monitored services.

What services are available when accessing with the STAFF domain?

All services are active with the STAFF domain.
For security reasons only the DNS of the University of Bologna, assigned automatically by the system on connection, can be used.

Since I changed my username I can no longer connect to the WiFi network. Why?

If you change your username, e.g. from name.surname2@unibo.it to name.surname@unibo.it, you must access with your original username: staff\name.surname2.

Even though I configured the connection following the instructions I can't access the system, why?

We advise you to update the drivers on the WiFi card on your computer to the latest release made available by the card manufacturer.
