Technopolis stems from a Regional Technical Plan by the Emilia Romagna Region, funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2007-2013, by way of bolstering the Regional Network of High Technology.
The Framework Agreement among the Emilia Romagna Region, Bologna University and the Local Authorities of Romagna to participate in the Technopolis venture entails setting up seven new Bologna University facilities devoted to industrial research and technological transfer on specific issues chosen by the Region (Inter-Departmental Industrial Research Centres – CIRI).
