After graduating and getting the Ph.D. in Torino, he had postdoc experiences in Copenhagen and Saclay. Researcher at INFN-Bologna from 1988, since 2005 he is Professor at Bologna University. His scientific interests are in non-perturbative and integrable Quantum Field Theories. He has given important contributions to the development of Conformal Field Thoeries, using methods of modular invariance and fusion algebras. Then his interests gradually evoleved into integrable quantum field theories and the related lattice models, where he has participated actively to the development of the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz approach to the exact study of finite size effects. More recently, his interests have turned into the study of quantum entanglement with conformal and/or integrable methods and applications of integrability to statistical systems out of equilibrium.
