Short Bio

Since 2008 full professor of Archaeology of Pre-Islamic Iran (SSD L-OR/16) at the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ravenna campus. 2012-14: Scientific Coordinator of Marie Curie Action project. 2009-2012: Dean of Facoltà di Conservazione dei Beni Culturali. 2012-13: member of ASN commission, SC 10/N-3. Since 2015: President of the Societas Iranologica Europaea. 2017: 8th Farabi International Award for Iranian and Islamic studies (Tehran). His researches regard mainly the archaeology and art of Iran and Central Asia during the historic pre-Islamic ages. He started his field activity in 1977 in Swat, Pakistan. Since 2005 he is the Italian director of the Iranian-Italian Joint Archaeological Mission in Fars, with excavations in the sites of Pasargadae and Persepolis West/Tol-e Ajori. He has collaborated in archaeometric research on finds from his excavations. He is author or editor of 8 monographs and more than 150 contributions in journlas, books, encyclopaedias.

During the course of the lessons:
First semester: Wednesday 12-13, Thursday 12-13,
in Via degli Ariani 1, Ravenna;
Second semester: Wednesday 10-12, Thursday 12-13,
in Via degli Ariani 1, Ravenna.

The teacher will also be available at the end of each lesson.

After the end of the courses:
Wednesday 11-13 or at other times, by appointment to be requested at least one week in advance
